Local youth hockey teams have been nominated for their commitment to helping out and being involved in the community. Cast your vote before February 28 to help select sixteen winning teams who will have an opportunity to participate in a one-day Ford Drills & Skills session hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

This is the second year in a row that our Major Atom AA Wolves team has qualified for the contest.

The community really rallied around the team last year with their voting.

The team’s wish would be to win again this year and extend an invitation to their buddy Hudson Fletcher from the Nickel City organization to celebrate his “Tumor Free” diagnosis!

NEWS ITEM”- January 23/2018. – Revised February 2/2018

Re: Greater Sudbury AAA Co-operation Committee (the “AAA Committee”)

The Sudbury Minor Hockey Association and the Nickel City Hockey Association wish to announce that, for the 2018-2019 hockey season, the Greater Sudbury AAA Co-operation Committee will remain the responsibility authority to carry on all matters related to the operations of all AAA teams in the Districts of 2 and 8 under of the auspices of the NOHA.

For greater clarity, the “AAA Committee” has been given the authority for all AAA hockey matters from Minor Peewee AAA to Major Midget AAA for teams run under the SMHA and NCity associations, individually, or as blended teams.

The two Associations have also agreed to work together to establish a single Association for, at a minimum, AAA hockey and they will also explore the establishment of a single Association for all Rep. hockey in Districts 2 and 8. The two Associations have developed a proposal presentation to raise a number of options in terms of how this might be accomplished and will be visiting all minor hockey Associations in Districts 2 and 8 in the coming months. These visits will inform work on a new constitution that will be endorsed by the Boards for both Associations and submitted to the NOHA for approval.

At this time, the “AAA Committee” will be accepting applications for coaches and team staff for all AAA teams planned for the 2018-2019 season:

Minor Peewee AAA- teams (2)- to be iced by each of the SMHA and Nickel City Associations
Major Peewee AAA- teams (2)- to be iced by each of the SMHA and Nickel City Associations
Minor Bantam AAA- one blended team to be iced
Major Bantam AAA- one blended team to be iced
Minor Midget AAA- one blended team to be iced
Major Midget AAA- one blended team to be iced

On December 1, after their first game of the Silver Stick Hockey Tournament, the Major Atom AA Wolves in partnership with MacLeod Public School, canvassed the south end in support of the Edgar Burton Food Drive.

The event brought in 12,392 food items in just one night.

Great to see the community support from our SMHA Hockey Clubs.

Way to Go Wolves!!!!
