News and Announcements
On January 1, 2019, we provided you with some information on how Sudbury Minor Hockey would proceed with AAA Minor and Major Bantam this upcoming season.
We applied for Minor and Major Bantam AAA cards with the NOHA by the January 20 deadline.
The Vice President of Rep Hockey and the Executive Director attended an interview with the NOHA board on January 26 in North Bay to defend the reason for our application.
The NOHA supported our endeavour and provided a letter of support along with our application, to the OHF for final approval since they had a moratorium on all new AAA teams in the Province and it would be discussed at their meetings on the weekend of February 23-24, 2019.
On February 26th we received a letter from the NOHA on behalf of the OHF seeking additional information.
On March 4, the SMHA board held a special meeting to discuss how we would respond to this request.
At that meeting it was ultimately decided that we would remain status quo for this season and look to put the effort in to rebuilding our programs by developing our players in order to be able to offer true AAA programs to our players in the future.
What this means is that SMHA will not be hosting Minor or Major Bantam AAA teams. Anyone in those age groups that will be seeking a release must contact the SMHA office to obtain one. Your 2018-2019 season team will be contacted to ensure there are no outstanding financial obligations and if all clear, a release will be provided.
Please be aware, this will only be effective at the Minor and Major Bantam AAA age groups.
We appreciate your patience. In the end we feel this is the right decision for the players of SMHA.
Yours in Hockey,
Sudbury Minor Hockey Association
Board of Directors
Please see the attached document outlining this years tryout times for all Triple A, Double A and Single A teams being held in District 8 for the 2019-2020 season.
Use the following link to Pre-register for tryouts.
Each category (AAA, AA and A) will require a separate pre-registration but please do not complete them all at once. For example, if your child is trying out for AAA and AA, wait until he/she gets cut from AAA to complete the AA pre-registration. This way if he/she makes the AAA team he/she is not on the AA list with a coach expecting them.
Good Luck to All!

Please visit the League Schedule tab above to obtain the Novice House League Championship games coming up.
The Sudbury Novice AA Wolves came back from St Catharines as the Champions of the Warriors Tournament.
After finishing second overall in the preliminary round, the Wolves beat the Burlington Cougars 6-1 to advance to the finals. In the finals, they faced the Halton Hills Thunder, the top seeded team. The Wolves claimed the championship with a 7-4 win. The message to the team for the final was to “Represent” their team, hometown, and families, and the players really came through.
We are very proud of our Novice AA Wolves!
It is our pleasure to announce that once again, Sudbury Minor Hockey and Copper Cliff Minor Hockey have entered into a cooperation agreement for District 8.
Applications for Team staff is now open. Each Association will be hosting Novice hockey but we are not soliciting coaches at that age division at this time.
Please see below and apply directly to the association that will be hosting the team you desire to coach.
Please note, you will get an interview time upon submission of application, so applying early will allow you more time to prepare.
This info is also posted to our Facebook page.
Tryout times will be posted soon.
